A while ago I uploaded my FTM file on to a FTM Home page. However when I google names (particularly unusual ones) which I know are on my home page, nothing shows up. I remember there was a thread about signing up your URL for google searches (cant find the original thread at the moment) - I did this a few weeks back but still don´t get any matches. Anyone else having similar problems?

I uploaded it on 23 June - but probably didn´t add the URL to allow google searches until about two weeks later. - and yes - its privatised. Perhaps I am just being too impatient - as usual !

The name in the URL is my name. When I google it the only result I get is from Xcounters(.)com - which is where I got the counter from to see how many hits the website would get.

What is the site where you can view the FTM´s I added a web counter to my home page so that I could see how many people had viewed it.

It was just that you said ......... I went to the geneology site which has the FTMs on and I scrolled down and found mine I can get to my home page via FTM - just wondered where you can view the list of trees that have been uploaded?

Mine still don't appear via a google search, even the likes of 'Daft Pogson' don't show, and my site has been running since April, and i signed up for a google 'upgrade' (sort of preference thing) in June and still nothing. Glen

OK Glen - as the FTM expert (as Heather sees to be AWOL today) - why don´t our names appear when we google them ???

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 12 Aug 2006 14:36

No idea, just wish i knew the answer. It must be worth £1,not the usual 50p. My homepage has my name in it,and there is one FTM homepage listed(about the 10th result) but it's not mine!(boo hoo).Trouble is there are over 4500 results for my name, and like most people i don't trawl through that many. Maybe i should edit my title to include 'tinsel knickers' Glen

Glen - I think you can name your price on this one. The problem is that I was hoping it would pick up references to any names in my tree. The title of my tree is something unusual - which doesn´t come up with any matches. My URL contains my own name and when I google this the only match is with XCounters (with I believe your name shown above mine!!!) I know we did it about the same time (following instructions from Heather - who still seems to be AWOL)

My oracle isn't much use either, just says the following Part of the reward of genealogy is sharing your information with friends and family. If you are working with other genealogists, you can send them a GEDCOM file and they can view the file using their own program. But what if you want to share your information with a friend or relative who doesn't have genealogy software? Family Tree Maker provides methods for copying the information out of your file into formats others can use. If a curious relative wants some information about your family, there's no need to overwhelm them with sophisticated file formats and import procedures. Instead, export a tree or report that contains the information you want to share. Your relative will be able to view it using programs that are already installed on most computers. Here are some different methods for sharing information with friends and family: Post the data on your homepage Save the view in a common format Copy and paste into a program Post the data on your homepage Every Family Tree Maker user can create a homepage on our website. The Internet menu and the Publishing Center (in FTM versions prior to 2005) contain several options for working with your homepage. If you have a report or tree you want to share, first establish an Internet connection. Then, from the Internet menu, choose Add a Tree/Report to My Homepage. If you wish to share a book, from the Books menu, choose Publish a Book on your Home Page. Note that books uploaded to the homepage in PDF format have a 10 MB size limit. Your homepage will be publicly available on the Internet. You can send the link to friends and family in an e-mail and they can view the reports, trees and books you have posted there. Eventually, as the page is added to search indexes on the Internet, searches on search engines such as Google may also bring up your homepage as a search result. NOTE: Because a homepage is freely available to everyone who wants to view it, we strongly suggest that you get the permission of living individuals in your file if you wish to post their personal information on your homepage. So not much help there then!!!!!!!!!! Glen

Well my url has my name (Glen Jones) and county (Berwickshire),but even googling with all that nothing comes up. My homepage is titled 'Glen Jones my birth family' but that doesn't work either. The answer will cost £7,when i find it.(am i cheap or what?) Glen

At least if you google 'tinsel knickers' it comes up with one of your GR entries !!!!

I suppose we could have the 'A-Z' of FTM Homepages as the next A-Z thread. Glen

I know I said you could name your price but I think seven pounds is a bit on the high side!!! Think I will have no alternative to wait until Heather returns - and I wouldn´t like to be in your shoes when she finds out you are charging that much !!!

Aw shucks,i have to start on my b/f side somehow and need his birth cert. My tree looks like it has sat in a force 10 gale since a tiny sapling, all lopsided leaning!!!! 450 rellies on my b/m's side, only one on b/f. Stand aside please,it looks very unstable. Glen

I certainly did,but as yet it hasn't been accepted. mmmmmm, not accepted WFT and no results on google, methinks i can smell the £7 coming!! Glen

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 12 Aug 2006 15:51

Having just read about WFT submissions,it takes 2-4 months to check a WFT tree submission, once submitted the tree cannot be amended. Mine was submitted in mid April,so it is really on the cards it should be available, but it isn't. My site homepage is updated every week, almost daily in fact. Guess that with the ancestry changes the WFT has gone to the wall,to be superceded by the new tree builder thingy. Glen
