Philip You say your ancestors finished up in the Workhouse? You may find Workhouse Admission registers and records - if you tell us which workhouse and when, I am sure someone can come up with an address for the registers. Also - do you know the A2A website? This is Access to Archives, a kind of index to MILLIONS of archives, who holds them, and usually a descriptive title of the document sufficient to tell you whether you would be interested in having it. A2A is a bit of a pain to search, but do persevere, I have found some priceless diamonds on there! OC

Jeanne I've not seen it recuur down my line but it may have gone down another line. Helen thanks for that. Is there a way to write to Kew and request copies or would I have to go in person? Helen

Regarding the ancestor you had in the Met police, his records would be at the National Archives in Kew. You might find some useful info there. Service records typically give a physical description, birth date and place and information about previous employers. Pension records give information about pension, final salary, and addresses. Further info on TNA website, research guide: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=104

Be interesting to see if the name Vincent is recurring in his or her family.

Philip Report 26 Aug 2006 09:57

I think this is Thomas June 1889 Scully Thomas Vincent Lambeth 1d 370 I've got Lambeth as POB from the census and it'd tie in with that 1888 marriage too.

A light bulb just went on! On the 1891 William is 3 months, I read it as 3 1/2 but it's actually 3/12 according to the thread *** census dates *** that census was taken 5 april 1891 so he'd be born jan/feb 1891

Philip

Philip Report 26 Aug 2006 09:18

Ooh you might have hit the nail on the head with that marriage!

Where in London did your policeman live? I have transcriptions of quite a few parishes in the East End that covers various periods through the 1700's and 1800's - give me a name and area and I'll have a look for you.
