presume this is the marriage you found Marriages Jun 1900 Appleby Caroline Pickering 9d 837 Edmond James Pickering 9d 837 SCALES Elizabeth Pickering 9d 837 Stead Robert Pickering 9d 837 -certainly right registration district as Aislaby would come under Pickering - you say you have found him as single in the 1901 census - can´t see it - can you give us some more details or the reference

You need to say which Aislaby (assuming you know). There's one near Pickering and one near Whitby.

Robert Stead b. 1880 Aislaby, North Yorkshire Polly - no other details but was apparantly married to him. Children:- (I am having a problem with my keyboard if I type the last letter of the alpahbet it takes me out of here and I have to start again so will put a star where I need a - ooops nearly typed it!) Annie, Hilda, Eli*abeth, Irene and Dolly. I cant find anything to tie them all together. Found a marriage for a Robert but then the census the year later has him as single. So it cant be right. Apparantly the 1st wife ended up in the Pickering Workhouse with her kids. Robert married my Gran after the war. Any help would be appreciated.
