I find most people reply here but perhaps I am lucky. If you are like me and only get A-H hotmatches you will get new matches when you get a bit further through the alphabet. This does not necessarily mean they were added recently. I also belong to rootschat which is free. I left messages on their Australian and New Zealand board about a couple of my strays and got answers the next day with more information. The boards are organised by county and surname interest and contain links to local resources. I have also left contact details on several village web sites. I had ancestors from a tiny village near Bath but the website is obviously run by the local historian as he sent me all the burial inscriptions for my name and the history of the village blacksmith shop that my ancestor had owned.

Laura, Beard or bread - One needs lots of butter -the other lots of shaving foam. The question is -which one do you need. Have to go to bed soon - enjoyed the chat - Let me know what you need in the morning. Dea Xxx

Her Indoors

Her Indoors Report 5 Sep 2006 22:14

It's odd how different our experiences are. I started in January this year as a complete newbie, and within days had been contacted by a 2nd cousin and have now dozens of contacts, most of whom I have some, if distant, blood relationship with. The tally, for want of a better word, is now 8 'pages' of contacts, and my tree, which started out at around 50 people from the combined knowledge of Her Indoors and myself, has grown to 3500. That's one hell of a rate of growth, and I would hate to admit how much time I devote to my research - although the family remind me constantly(!). Perhaps that just makes me a 'name collector', although the last message I sent to a contact included an Ahnentafel Report for several generations of a family from painstaking transcriptions of several decades of census + BMD indices + IGI, and had three dozen source citations - so I can't be that rubbish!

We got a reply to one recently that my Daughter sent when she started the tree 18 months ago and it was full of info, so don't give up hope.
