Hi, Just been reading all this info, If all else fails you can reinstall the Windows O/S and this can been run as a repair, thus restoring you PC back to it's original state. Good Luck Andy

Hi Betty, Are you still with us? As some one else has said, right at the top of the page, there is a long bar - mine is bright blue. ( above where it says File....Edit ....View ..etc) On mine is written Family Tree. Genealogy. Ancestor. Ancestry. Family History - Microsoft Internet Explorer Look at yours and tell us what you can see - this will help somone to recognise what your grandson has changed your internet browser setting to. Jay

Hi Peter, If you go out of GR just now and into your e-mails where you receive a message that someone has contacted you on GR. If you click on that it automatically takes you straigh onto GR, that the only way I can get into GR not via the website. There is an Internet Explorer Icon on the computer as my grandson changed something because when I click on the Icon I just get MSN chat. This maybe what I have MSN now but I don't want that I would rather have Internet Explorer as before because you can get microsoft updates. Betty

Just picking up on your last comment, If you are on the GR website, then you are connected to the internet and must have a working Internet Browser of sorts. What is it that you are seeing at the top of the screen when you are connected to GR?

Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your messages, sorry I haven't got back to any of you, been trying to fix this all night with the help of someone on GR, still not fixed. To answer Robert's question the only way I can view and access the GR website is by going into the pm messages which I receive and they come up on my own e-mail, I then click on this and it takes me onto GR so I can read the messages. Thats the only way I can get onto GR website. Betty p.s. Have also been onto Judy in the States hope she can help!!

The lack of an icon doesn't mean that IE isn't there. Go to my computer c\ program files \ internet explorer(folder) \ internet explorer If it is there RIGHT CLICK and select 'create short cut' This creates another icon in the same folder with'shortcut to ie'. Then drag or cut and paste the 'shortcut to IE Explorer' icon onto the desktop. Adding/ removing IE from control panel doesn't actually remove it. Bob

Hi Robert :):) Hi Betty :):) As Robert suggest and before you remove any internet browser make sure you have a back up browser installed. We do not want you uninstalling what could be the only browser you have and unable to access the internet altogether. Colin :):)

Betty. Don't quite understand this, if you are on this site how are you viewing it ? Does it say internet explore in the blue bar at the top? Under help and 'about' what version does it say? In control panel add remove programs, is IE7 listed ? On the left in 'add / remove windows components' try removing and then adding internet explorer. I always tell people to have other browsers on the pc like firefox and opera so you don't get STUCK like this. Bob

Hi Betty :):) You may be able to use the last known good configuartions to restore the computer. If you are using windows xp follows these instructions : Start the computer and as it is loading keep tap tap tapping on the F8 key this will throw the computer into safe mode . When the Windows Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER. Troubleshooting • With the Last Known Good Configuration feature, you can recover from configuration problems such as newly installed drivers that may be incorrect for your computer's hardware. It does not correct problems that are caused by missing or corrupted drivers or files. • The Last Known Good Configuration feature uses information that is saved from the last time that you shut down your computer to restore registry settings and drivers. Therefore, you can use this feature only if you were able to start your computer successfully before you restore your computer by using the last known good configuration. • After you start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, changes that were made since the last successful startup are lost. Hope this helps Colin :):)

Hi Betty, I do honestly understand just how frustrated you must feel, if it had been one of mine they would probably be yelling 'Childline' by now. Firstly I would have very strong words with him, let him know the 'dire' steps that will be taken should he ever interfere with your work again. Then, stand by the window grab the first 5 year old that passes, I am sure they will sort it for you!!!!!!! I know it is very early in the afternoon, but go and pour yourself a LARGE G&T, ungrit your teeth and smile, it could have been worse. Kathlyn
