Derek - I have a good imagination ! Probably same as I was doing in Singapore. John is not exactly a unique name but I think that James brother was John but he was a few years older than James which would have made him 40-ish by 1950 and maybe over the hill for high-jinx in Tokyo ! on the other hands porridge may work wonders ! |

Hello Joe, an interesting find. Can't help you, but thought I'd say I sailed in the 50's with a John Isbister from Helensburgh and recall him saying his kin were from the islands. I'd hate to repeat what the two of us got up to in Japan, god luv him, Derek in France |

. Are YOU researching the Isbister family of Scotland - I have just come across a 1940 magazine article which may be of interest to anyone who is researching this family - especially JAMES WILLIAM (Jim) ISBISTER who was born about 1913. I can see that he had a brother and six sisters - One of them went to Australia (sorry have no names of the girls). There are excellent pictures of the family and the family home. This family lived in the Orkneys - Stennis (Upper Onston) / Kirkwall A little research shows James had a wife formerly LILIAN (LILY) TAIT. HE WAS THE SON OF JOHN AND JANE ISBISTER. John born about 1866. |
