How do you know that the John Kilbey married to Lavinia is Maude's father? You have mentioned that the marriage cert said he was a timber merchant but Lavinia's husband is an insurance agent. Are you certain that Maude didn't just make up a father for herself when she was married as she didn't like to look illegitimate? There has been a thread about this and it seems the most common method was for the person to take their own surname add John and state he was dead and give him a profession.

Jenny, I'm not doubting your information. What I'm doubting is, if your gr-nan wasn't registered until her death, it's only hearsay that she was born in 1900. People can always be out a couple of years when giving ages. Ozi.

hi gill rebecca allerton was rebecca kilbey by 1923 she is my gr gr nan she never married just took kilbey name as she had an illigitimate child called maude kilbey 1900(not registered until death1977) john kilbey is maudes dad have traced him but nothink for rebecca so we looked for rebecca allerton and this is the family we found in our area jenny
