Mark, where does your info come from for William? Are you sure this one is him? It's a common name. Ozi.

The William on 1861 can't be your 1841 William. In 1861 enigma William should be 24. The one visiting Sarah is 6!!! I think they would notice the difference & it's unlikely it's been mistranscribed. Lucky you to have a family that stays in the one place for so long. Ozi.

mm so how do i find out who the '1841' william was and also who the '1861' william was...Although the family have lives there for hundreds of years, they are still not simple.lol

If you take the 1851 census with William as stepson of John Breakspeare the his mother is Mary Norris. Either he is from Mary's first marriage or is illegitimate. If the William on the 1841 is the same person then it is probable that Thomas and Ann are his grandparents (Mary's parents) who are looking after him whilst his mother is elsewhere (working, visiting). Of course it could be that they are totally different Williams. The William in 1861 is age 6 so cannot be the same person but I think he will be the nephew of Sarah going by the names of the children of the William in 1871. That William is going to have to be son of Thomas and Ann

Mark What is the earliest date you have when you are sure you have the correct William. We can then work back and stand a better chance of elimination. Tricia
