Not Cannon Street, anyway.

In Cannon Street there were these surnames:

Ackroyd, Adams, Martinez, Thorpe, Marron, Cohen, Welford, Taylor, Allison, Cass, Wrightson, Matthews, Hall, Trippett, Wiseman, Jackson.

Okay, thank you so much for looking for me, the relative who gave me the address may have it wrong or they might have moved there after 1939,
Think I’ve reached a dead end.
Thanks again for trying.

The "name closed" means that either the person is still alive OR they died after 1991 when the NHS stopped updating the Register; OR they are dead but no-one has asked FMP to open the record and provided the proof of that.

They might of course have died overseas, or outside England and Wales.

If a Public Tree on ancestry is to be believed, his correct name might be Thomas Hughes Mcculloch, son of Thomas Henderson Mcculloch and Grace Darling Hughes

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Aug 2018 00:44

If that is true, then Thomas Hughes was born before his parent's marriage

Marriages Mar 1903 (>99%)

HUGHES Grace S. Shields 10a 1043
McCulloch Thomas Henderson S. Shields 10a 1043

He is on the 1911 Census as Thomas Mcculloch Hughes

Thank you Sylvia,
This is really interesting, can I just ask, when the names have been changed have they been changed to McCulloch?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Aug 2018 17:18

Hi Susan

You're welcome ...............

no, the name in brackets is the maiden name.

The 1939 Register became the basis for the NHS which came into being in 1947.

Women who married after the Register was taken had their name changed to the married name as the Register was updated by the NHS.

The dates I gave you for those women was the name at which the NHS change was made, which will be AFTER the marriage date.

As far as Thomas Hughes Mcculloch is concerned, it looks as though he just switched the two names around so that he used his father's surname instead of his mother's maiden name.

He could that just by usage, without any legal steps being taken ............. and it is apparent that Thomas Henderson Mcculloch was his father by the surname being given to your Tomas ............ a common acknowledgement of the birth father.
