I read on another site that it had been announced on Twitter that the 1939 Register was free on ancestry until 13 May

I find it mildly irritating that the transcriptions often don't give the street name in the address especially when the first entry on the page is closed.

FMP made a much better job Kense.
They provide 2 elements
1st is a transcription of the address and 2nd is the actual image.

I've been using it for a while and simply copy and paste the address onto my tree with the 1939 date, then attach the image

Ancestry provide both image and transcription, but I suspect that their transcriptions were from images that contained redactions, whereas FMP probably had unredacted images to start with.

If the first line of the image has been redacted then the road name for subsequent entries is not available on that page and isn't included in the transcription (just the house number). Usually you can find it from the previous page's image.
