Have you bought your mother's birth certificate?

If so, is there a father's name on there?

If there is not a father's name, then it is going to be hard to determine who he was, unless there was a court order taken out against him for child support.

If you have not got her birth certificate, then you need to buy it before you go any further.

PM received from Karen, asking for advice on getting started...

Chris :)

To find Births, Marriages, Deaths (BMD's) see below link...

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Then you need to order from below...(or, better still if you have a copy of them, or anyone in family does!)

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

Using info. from them you (or us here!) can then start to search back...(addresses, occupations, witnesses from them, all give clues, and help)

Quite a bit available online, on different websites...or your local Archives/Records Office, local libraries can be useful, as can Family History Societies/Groups etc...

And google search, another useful way, for picking up info. sometimes!.

Chris :)

(all seems daunting at first, takes time, but hopefully you'll get there, lol)

Thankyou :-)
My mums birth certificate says father unknown, her eldest sister told her (she was 15 when my mum was born)
He tried to contact my mum years (more than 25) a go by a message with po box number in Derbyshire Evening post but at the time my grandmother was alive and my mum didnt want to upset her by contacting him. She now wishes she knew who he was.
