Thomas Report 25 Oct 2017 22:03

I have a relative who died in the 1950's - he was born in Ireland, but I suspect his birth was registered under a false name as the parents would have been 15 at the time. I have that certificate, which gives a DOB - my problem now is that I need a record from some time in his life that would allow me to compare.

Does anyone know if it's possible to verify this from his medical records or NI records? I don't want the actual records, just to verify that Thomas Lough DD MM 1896 existed.

greyghost Report 25 Oct 2017 22:58

Did he remain in Ireland or was he elsewhere at any time
ie. in England/Wales where he might be picked up on the 1939 register

Not seeing a death in England/Wales that would fit, nor Scotland.

Is his birth the one in Clones, Co. Monaghan 1896 with family at Smithborough, Drumsnat, Monaghan in 1901 and Ormeau, Co. Down 1911

Your opening post is a little cryptic.

What is the DOB and name on the death certificate that you have?

Do you suspect he was born Thomas Lough? Or did he change his name to Thomas Lough?

(old 'Thread' above, if relates somewhere!)

Chris :)

(from above)

My grandfather, THOMAS LOUGH, joined the Glasgow Police in 1906. He gave the following information.
Date of birth - 12 Dec 1886 at Finaghy, Drumbo, Co. Down
Previous employment as the Royal Garrison Artillery.
But, no records of the birth seem to exist. So the information can not be assumed to be correct...

Don't know if this is connected, but a possible if the rest of the family also followed on to Glasgow:

On the 1920 electoral registers for Glasgow there is a Hugh Lough residing at 19 View Park Avenue. There are lots of people living in the same household- among them is a Mrs Mary Munro and Robert Munro. Munro is extremely common so it may not be connected, but worth keeping in mind.

I don't see Hugh listed in Glasgow after 1920

There is also a photo of Hugh in Larne Times - Saturday 28 August 1915. He was wounded at the Dardenelles and in hospital at Port Said.

So, the 1924 article confirms that Mary was in Glasgow.
