Hi

Can anyone please advise me. If searching birth records online (for example on this site) is there anywhere on those records that indicates if that child was Adopted. Without buying a birth certificate is this info available and if so which is the best site to use? At the moment I only use Genes Reunited.

Many thanks for any advice.

The indication of adoption over the years altered

In the 1970, s a small S was put against the page nos of the gro birth record which indicated adopted and only a small cert would be issued which doesn't show the parent or parents names

Thanks for that Shirley

Do I take it that a full birth certificate wouldnt be available after 1970 then?

Cassie,

Yes a full birth certificate can be issued , although you maybe required to give a birth parent name.

It was only in late 1969 that any indication is shown that the entered name or part has been changed.......

..(a) may also be seen.

Thanks Kay. I was aware that people said you could see on a record that someone was adopted but I didn't know how and now I know it is after the 70s also.

Thanks for the replies

My son was adopted in 1958 and because his birth certifcate was given to the adoptive parents at the time I applied for a copy. In one of the corners it was written "Adopted" although it didn't say who had adopted him or the new name he had been given.

Thanks Patricia

I was aware of the note made on the certificates but I was intetested to know if there was anyway of knowing the info on online records to be able to identify correct recofds before paying for certificates.
