Asti ............

Thank you

I enjoy it :-)

One tip .................... use the wild card * when searching on a site that will allow you to do so.

The * replaces one or more letters, but there usually have to be at least 3 letters left as is .................. so

R*n*ld* ------ would get every variation, including the "s" being left off.

I know Ancestry and FindMyPast allow that ................ I don't know which site you use

and familysearch looks for all variants unless you tick the "match all terms exactly" box

but the * does save a lot of time, even it means you have to sift through a listing

Malyon ................

the Joseph and Frances you posted were born in Saddleworth, which is close to the Lancashire border (near Oldham).

The Joseph and Frances that Asti is looking for were born in Wheldrake near York ...... which is quite a distance from Saddleworth!

In addition, the 1891 Census shows their mother to be called Mary ............ and we're looking for a mother called Elizabeth!

This is the Ancestry version of that 1841 ............ Note the spelling!!

Asti .....

see my post of 27 Jan 2016 20:56

a Frances Reynolds born in Wheldrake is a servant in York ............. and then I found marriage for a Frances Reynolds, father William taking place in York, posted 27 Jan 2016 21:01

If true, then that answers your question about her.

Was that 1841 record the 1841 Census??

Asti06 Report 28 Jan 2016 00:09

WOW!!
This is mind boggling.
So i have found a document that is dated 1841.
it is rather confusing to explain but i will try my best.

Name William Renolds
Event Type Census
Event Date 1841
Event Place Wheldrake, Yorkshire,Yorkshire East Riding, England
Residence Note Rectory House
Gender Male
Age 25-29
Age (Original) 25
Birth Year (Estimated) 1812-1816
Birthplace Yorkshire
Registration District York
Book Number 17
Parish Wheldrake
County Yorkshire,Yorkshire East Riding
Page Number 17
Registration Number HO107
Piece/Folio 1228/11
Affiliate Record Type Household
Household

Name Gender Age Birthplace
William Renolds M 25-29 Yorkshire
Elizabeth Renolds F 35-39 Yorkshire
Frances Renolds F 4 Yorkshire
William Renolds M 3 Yorkshire
Joseph Renolds M 3 months Yorkshire
Thomas Smith M 10 Yorkshire
Diana Smith F 9 Yorkshire

So the age for William is about right and i have seen about 4/5 different documents with his birthdate listed differently, but they are him.
The age range for Elizabeth is bang on.
Frances has been mentioned by you all but she does not show up in the 1951 census and i cannot find a death certificate for her. Williams age is wrong as he was born around 1940. Josephs age could possibly be right as i have him down as born in 1841-1842.
Thomas's age is right as he was born around 1830
Diana is a new one to me also. she doesnt appear on the 1851 census with the family and again i cannot find a death certificate I checked her out and elizabeth is her mother and thomas smith her father. Thomas smith is also Thomas's father.
It just seems like to much of a coincidence. Same location, mother and fathers age is right, one of the children ages is right and now 2 new children.
What do you think??

Im Home,
Yes sorry i meant the 1851 census.
I found the marriage of Elizabeth and William in 1838 giving Elizabeths maiden name as Hobson.
I am unsure if francis is any relation. I did find a marriage for 1820 of Ann Reynolds in Wheldrake. I am thinking they may be some relation and this is why william moved from Hull to wheldrake??
Wheldrake is a small villiage with around 2000 residents now so i presume it was dratically smaller in the 1800's.
I will check out the Rennolds spelling as Reynolds is bringing up no results at all in the parish records. I will update very soon

Thank you everyone!!
I am just out on the school run at the moment (Yorkshire girl living in Canada)
I will review these when I get home to my laptop as the small phone screen makes it even more mind boggling lol.
Also can anyone do a search on Joseph Reynolds born 1842 I believe. He is on the 1851 census then disappears. It might just be me staring at a computer screen so long my eyes are playing tricks on me and my mind isn't engaging.
Thanks a bunch you are all awesome ??
