MargaretM Report 9 Nov 2015 18:12

Do you have this?

NEILSON _ Vera M. Passed away peacefully on June 16, 2007 at the Royal
Columbian Hospital, New Westminster. Vera was born on November 7, 1921 to
Wilbur and Mary Beamish. She grew up on a Shoal Lake, Manitoba farm with
three dear sisters: Vivian Sundell, Cynthia Scurfield and Doreen Langdon.
Always wanting to be a nurse, she became an R.N. at the Winnipeg General
Hospital. During the last years of WWII, she nursed at Deer Lodge, a
military convalescent hospital in Winnipeg. She moved to BC in 1947 to work
at the Royal Columbian Hospital. In 1954 Vera married Dr. Thomas Neilson,
who passed away in 1998. She was an awesome mom to her surviving children:
Stuart, New Westminster; Scott (Valerie), Nanaimo; and Sharon (Dan
Sundvick), Langley. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Brad, David and
Ted Neilson; and Joshua and Kristen Sundvick. Vera golfed regularly at the
Vancouver Golf Club, after joining in 1951. As an avid bridge player, she
enjoyed regular games with her friends. In addition to driving and
spectating, she volunteered as treasurer for Little League Baseball, Babe
Ruth Baseball and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club to further support her
children's activities. She was always a voracious reader with regular trips
to the New Westminster Public Library. A special thanks to Dr. Linda Curtis
and the staff at the Royal Columbian Hospital and the Queen's Park Care
Center, who cared for her. A memorial service will be held at Queen's Avenue
United Church, 529 Queen's Avenue, New Westminster (corner of Queen's Avenue
and 6th Street) at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2007. A reception will
follow at the Vancouver Golf Club, 771 Austin Ave., Coquitlam.
Published in the Vancouver Sun and The Province on 6/22/2007.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 9 Nov 2015 14:04

Daily Obituary Times

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~obituary/

from another site ..............

"Just be aware that the Obituary Daily Times DOES NOT have the obituaries. It is just an index to help you find the newspaper that does have the obituary or notice of death."

so we need to find the newspaper in BC that published that obituary ................

I would suggest that it was in The Province, published in Vancouver

Unfortunately, so far as I can make out, their archived obituaries are run by legacy.com, which is an ancestry site, and requires World Wide membership to search.

Gone back to Sylvia's link - on the right is a search box for Fold3

That was originally there, but when I hovered my curser over it, it turned out to be an Advert :-S
Although I've since navigated away this evening, the Pdf box wasn't there, but something different.

Anyway - How about contacting New Westminster Library? There are email addresses & other sugggested contact details on the following link

on my computer, I get what you see, but at the right hand side is a box that says Download PDF and instructions on how to do it

I assumed that would download the actual record, but may be not.

It was a PDF download, which is why I did not want to download it onto my computer

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 Nov 2015 17:49

Although I'd looked when Sylvia posted the link, I think the suggested download was for a programme to open PDF files.

Try and trace the newspaper archive or local library service. They may be willing to do a look-up for you.

Stairway Report 1 Nov 2015 18:47

Dear all,
Yes I’m sorry original D.O.D.Was a typo
Thank you for your comments, and have spent a couple of hours on the net following the links mentioned without any success. All other points noted. I live in England. My dad was born in Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland
He was my fathers cousin (paternal) and have photos of when they were younger (no addresses from that time) no living family to ask,
Here is what I have found out so far-
Thomas Hood NEILSON born in Scotland abt 1921
“ NEILSON, Dr Thomas H; 77; New Westminster BC>Glasgow SCT; Province (BC); 1998-3-4; verbeek “ source rootsweb Does that read 3rd April ?
Military serial no: source- supplement to the London Gazette, 12 December, 1944 5683 24th Sept .1944 1365031 Thomas Hood Neilson (186657)
Address (from Mums address book) Mr. Thomas (Tommy) &Vera Neilson. 819 Cherry St. New Westminster British Colombia V34 4MB Canada.

He married Vera in 1954 Vera M. (b. 7 Nov.1921) surname at birth Beamish
Source Internet search CAN-BC-OBITS-L[CAN-BC-OBITS]
I think his parents were James (Stewart) Neilson and Catherine Mary McKirdy I was hoping his obit might verify this.
No I am not sure if an obit was published but apparently he was a real fun loving person.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 31 Oct 2015 22:56

Not sure, although I got the impression the husband died before the wife. It may have been a few year earlier than the one now shown? Not that it matters a great deal.

Edit - from an earlier post, He died in 1978.

With no names of either of the deceased, Stairway presumably only wanted source suggestions, not for any on us to research.
