If Sarah Ann's birth certificate is printed I would be inclined to contact Stockton Register Office and tell them you have already bought the certificate but could they please check the mother's maiden name as father's name and the address of birth were what you expected but the mother's maiden name is wrong.

It's possible that whoever wrote out the certificate looked at the next entry or the one before as they were filling in the mother's maiden name.

ArgyllGran Report 6 Apr 2015 15:14

PM's received from Linda, attaching certs for John and Eliza.

Eliza's is a photocopy of the original handwritten cert.
John's is a modern handwritten cert, with the details which would have been on the original.

Linda says she's sent me Sarah Ann's too, but it hasn't come through to me.

Unfortunately the suggestion on your thread, Gwyn, that it might have been the husband's mms which was entered by mistake, doesn't work here.

William's mother's name seems to be Procter, per a tree on Ancestry - presumably this is his parents' marriage:

James Hutchinson
mentioned in the record of James Hutchinson and Sarah Procter
Name: James Hutchinson
Spouse's Name: Sarah Procter
Event Date: 14 May 1821
Event Place: Calverley Parish, West Riding, York, England
Marital Status: Single
Spouse's Marital Status: Single

i have had word from stockton registry office after looking again at the myers/green / greener mystery and they say sarah ann,s mother is definatly ann formaly myers and johns mother is definatly ann green , and also said even though a document is hand writen they have to coppy things as they were on the acctualy document even if the spelling was incorrect ....so it still a big question mark on myers / green / greener

(with Martha being 4th Daughter, as noted on Baptism posted, and others above, also James posted earlier 1850, wonder what Maiden Name is for them)

If it was Ann who registered Sarah Ann's birth - and it being her first child so not used to the process of registering - then I wonder if when she was asked what was the mother's maiden name, did she think they meant HER mother's maiden name instead of her own and that her mother's maiden name was possibly Myers.

Just another possibility to think about.

Scotlands People doesn't show any births for an Ann Green or Greener or Myers (or variant spellings) , with father Robert, anywhere in Scotland 1818-25
There are a few (below) with fathers with other names.

01/10/1820 GREEN ANN
ALEXR. GREEN/JANE ROBERTSON FR656 (FR656) F SPEYMOUTH /MORAY 143/00 0040 0007

09/02/1824 GREEN ANN
ALEXR. GREEN/MARGARET CLARK F RATHVEN /BANFF 164/00 0030 0034

15/02/1820 GREEN EMILY ANN
JOHN GREEN/JANE ROBERTSON FR5935 (FR5935) F PERTH /PERTH 387/00 0240 0015

06/05/1822 MORE ANN
ALEXR. MORE/ISABEL VALENTINE F UDNY /ABERDEEN 249/00 0020 0015

10/05/1823 MYERS ANN
ALEXANDER MYERS/ANN NEILSON FR3771 (FR3771) F GLASGOW GLASGOW CITY CITY/LANARK 644/01 0310 0219

This is the only marriage which could conceivably be her parents, if her mother was Myers or variant - but it seems too long before her birth - of course she could have been the youngest of a large family:
Although it looks like two different couples, I think it's probably the same one, as one record will be banns, and the later one may be the actual marriage.

Please note: I'm not saying this couple are her parents! In fact, I doubt it very much.

08/01/1802 GREEN ROBERT MARGARET MAIR/ M OLD MACHAR ABERDEEN CITY CITY/ABERDEEN 168/0B 0080 0269

10/01/1802 GREEN ROBERT MARGARET MAIR/ M ELLON /ABERDEEN 192/00 0030 0197

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2015 11:59

i am not familliar with scotlad names and there variant but could robt be short for another instead of just robert ?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Apr 2015 12:11

No, I think Robt is just Robert.

Ann's YOB certainly stays constant on all the records

Of course, old parish records are patchy, so there may not be any relevant records to find.

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2015 12:27

with robt being a tailor would he have to have had a apprentiship , would there be record i could search on line ...im summising he was from scotland ...

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2015 13:30

i have searched ancestry trees and there are quite a few who have robert green dob 1767 death occupation carter 1854 and wife margaret mair 1772 married jan 1802 ellon aberdeenshire and all the trees have them with 2 children robert 1806 and james 1811 they both married and occupatons were in linnen clothier , and there childrens occupations flaxdresser , ropmaker , dealer and baker , this family stayed in aberdeenshire , my robert green on anns marriage was tailor so it looks sadly like the wrong family ...
