GR do provide emoticons immediately underneath the 'Add your Reply' box. When they first appeared some people couldn't see them because they didn't have their 'compatibility' on, or it could have been off. It's quite a while ago!

To follow up a little ...

I've now found one of the relevant sailings (Highland Loch 1925) thanks to fmp. Turns out that my father's birth year was - for whatever reason - ten years out, 1905 instead of 1895, so no wonder my searches didn't find him.

Which suggests that I may need to make some very broad searches for Florence!

Also, I've just noticed that the "smile" label I attached to my question to DET about privileged access (which was meant as a joke) didn't make it through the GR filters, I forgot that GR filters out things in pointy brackets.

And you've opened my eyes to another little quirk of GR, its relationship to findmypast, I hadn't realised that they were linked as you say. Duh!

DET: this seems odd, when I search GR for Florence Weston, 1894 +/- 5 key=argentina, I get zero results - yet you get two, do you have some sort of privileged access? Removing the keyword I get 10 results, NONE of which are for "my" Florence going to the Argentine.

Meanwhile fmp gives 29 results without a keyword and two with, matching your results on GR. My head hurts! Time for bed, said Zebedee ...

A number of the Florence Weston entries have been posted on there - Would it have been better to return to that thread? Possibly as no one wants to duplicate previous searches. Admittedly on this one, Keith hasn't asked on here for that - he requested someone to send him the complete passenger lists so that he can look himself.

If your local French library doesn't have access to Ancestry, then probably the 14 day trial is your best option.

Gins - was that from GR or Ancestry?

If I remember correctly, Keith believes that there was some sort of relationship between his Parr family and Florence Weston. We were trying to find passenger lists where they were both listed.

Presumably Keith wants the opportunity to pour through the passengers lists in case one of the names has been mistranscribed...hence his request.

Removing the key word gives 40 results. In this instance, Ancestry is probably better. TBH, I prefer the lay out for the results as it's easier to choose the ones to view in their entirety. Having said that, you might need to have a full WW membership on there to view all the passenger list databases.
No one site has everything - you'd probably find that if they can afford it GR members would subscribe to Ancestry and either Findmypast or GR for research. Findmypast is a sister site to GR which GR accesses when you search through this portal.

I live in France so the local library option is probably not a goer .

I'll have a look at the Ancestry option. Is their collection of sailing records much better than the one on GR?

Hello Keith - do you have another thread somewhere about Florence as her name plus Argentina rings a bell!
OK - it was a series of PMs in connection with your father Arthur William Parr as well as Florence and an Edith Chapman

Passenger lists usually consist of many pages making it rather unrealistic for someone to download and forward the whole file.

A couple of suggestions
- Take advantage of Ancestry's free 14 day trial, but remember to ring them and cancel a few days before the trial ends. If you don't they'll charge your credit card.
- Ask at your library to see if they have a Library sub to Ancestry. You can then book a computer and access it for free

Please could someone find copies of the ships' passenger lists for the following sailings:

31st January 1930 Southampton Buenos Aires Arlanza
10th April 1934 Buenos Aires Southampton Arlanza
31st August 1935 London Buenos Aires Highland Brigade
10th March 1938 La Plata London Highland Monarch

Most importantly I'd like copies of the page(s) showing Florence Weston (abt 1894) but ideally I'd like the complete passenger list so that I can check for other names which might be relevant (I have a single page for the 1934 sailing which places my father on the same boat ...).

It's possible that Florence was a resident of Argentina, in which case I'd expect to be able to find a sailing for her from the Argentine to the UK prior to 1930 but I have so far failed to do so. Similarly it might be that she returned to the Argentine after 1938, again I have failed to find such a sailing. Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.
