I've seen Pine-Coffins in holiday ads for properties in the West country

Sylvia,

It's maddening when you can't find a probable link, isn't it?

On my side I have 2 families with the same unusual surname living in a very small Sussex town. Mine is one family, with no apparent connection to the better-off other group.
Back to mid 1770s we haven't found the link yet.

Gwyn ................

a friend I met through the sister site FR, has the same maiden name as my grandmother

My ones seem to be based around Dukinfield (Cheshire) and Oldham ..... about 6 miles apart by road although closer across country.

Hers are based in southwest Cheshire

we have tried to find a link between the two groups, but have not yet succeeded.

I'm pretty certain that there has to be a link way back ............ the surname is not that common!

Thanks for that link Rose. My paternal ancestors were from Devon and I've certainly come across the Pine-Coffin family before.

Thank you for the link Rose.

I have never come across a Pine -Coffin, but my parents had family friends called COFFIN.

The preview of the book makes interesting reading.....I haven't read it all, just a quick browse, but it's interesting that it's thought that some names, - now fairly wide-spread may have had a common ancestor.

Since researching my family history, I have met someone who had the same maiden name as myself, but we grew up in completely different areas.. She has gone back about 10 generations and we have found no link, but when we met again recently, my husband remarked yet again, 'Gosh, she's like your sister!'.... She looks more like my sister than I do, ...so we do wonder.

I've come across a few 'pine-coffins' when searching records lately and thought the obvious, but came across this on google and thought it might be of general interest and for anyone researching the name in future.
