Had she been married before and divorced?

Welcome.

Which site are you using that is giving you two names?

Is it before the 1911 census?

Can you give more details?

Have you used FreeBMD site?

CPS

CPS Report 24 Jul 2014 21:54

That was her first marriage as far as I know.
All the geneology sites are giving me the two names, it's 1947 so after the census.
Havn't tried free site never knew about it.

Thanks

If she is no longer living, post the full details, and we'll look at it

If she had children, the correct maiden name should show on their birth registrations

having said that, if she's your relation, you must know what her name was at birth

She may have lived with someone and been known by their name

Alternatively she may have been born in one surname but her mum married after she was born so she took on the new hubby's surname

The cert should explain

Without some names it's only supposition that we can make

Hi these are her details.....
Margery Seldon born to Florence Mabel Seldon 1920 my Gran was un-married at this time. It states Margery married 1947 summer months to either Brown or Maynard then it all stops.

Any help much appreciated

Seldon Margery Maynard Surrey S.E. 5g 2036

It was the groom who had alternative surnames

carole

Click on the info button on freebmd as advised on there

A daughter's birth is on freebmd with surname Maynard, so that's obviously the one by which the couple were known after the marriage

Look for it......

Margery's birth was registered in 1922, not in 1920

Look at freebmd

It is important to try to give accurate dates when you ask for help

Thank you all, Im not very good at all this Im afraid !
My enquiries take me down the Brown route not finding anything on Maynard to speak of.
Ive found Margery & Alan living in Bolton in the early 2000's

I don't know how to find their children if any ? please bear with me on this.

Thank you again

Look on freebmd for Maynard children with MMN Seldon during the time of their marriage, which wasn't very long

there was one child, which I told you about some days ago

Or get a copy of Margery's death cert, to find out who the informant was

Ricochet

Ricochet Report 30 Jul 2014 08:44

how can you have found them in the 2000's?

Margery died in 1992, and alan died in 1995,

I gave you their deaths on 25th July

Please do take the time to read carefully all of the info you are given, as it will help you

Thank you for your help, Im very new to all this, I do appreciate all your help Im obviously looking at all the wrong things ?

Ricochet Report 31 Jul 2014 08:22

Don't worry, take it slowly. It's all confusing at first

Go to

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/search

Select births

Put in Maynard and Seldon in the appropriate boxes

Click on find, and you will get the child's birth registration details.

Also, take note from what I added above that Alan married again twice after the marriage to Margery

The second marriage is on freebmd, but the third one is too recent for that site
