Two children from Gillett/Coulam marriage but I won't post their details as both may still be alive so sent to Tat by PM.

The medal would have been presented to their great grandfather.

Just to check we are going down the correct route, can you list the details on the medal?

There are lots of John Nobles and we want to make sure we have the right one.

So much help! Thank you.

My fella was John Henry Noble, eldest son of Mark & Annie of Deene Hse, Byron Place, Clifton, Bristol. His medal gave him the second initial B, but the Royal British Legion tell me that these initials were often confused, for some reason. Through the CWGC I have discovered he was a Lance Corporal in the Royal Engineer's, 48th Signals, service no. 500227. He served in France and Flanders, died on 10/01/18 and is buried at the Bordighera British Cemetery in Italy, grave ref. IV A 9. He signed up in Nailsea, Bristol

The 1911 census sees him living at 1 Osborne Rd, Southville, Bristol, working as a postman, he was born in 1871. Married to 34 year old Annie (Bancroft?) for 18 years. Children; Violet Ellen aged 16, Percival Ernest aged 14, Doris Ethel aged 12, Ivor John aged 11, Reginald Lansdowne aged 9 and Cecil Hyatt/Hiatt aged 5.

I can't find any of them beyond this except a possible death record for Cecil Hyatt in London in 1988.

I am slowly going through the trees of people searching for a J Noble, as suggested by Pam.

As already suggested can you give some details

Have you found his service record, pension record or medal card yet. Although 70% of WW1 records were destroyed during WW2

Have you found his entry on CWGC site

Go to SEARCH top right hand of the page and then click on SEARCH ALL TREES. Complete the form that comes up with the information you have and see if anybody on Genes has him in their family tree. You can then contact them providing the still have the same e-mail address as when they joined.

I am in possession of a found WW1 medal and have I think (!) traced it's recipient to a war cemetery in Italy.

I am eager to return the medal to the soldiers family but can trace them only as far as his children. Genealogy is not one of my natural gifts.

My regional branch of the Royal British Legion suggest you people may be able to assist. Hoping for help!

Thank you, Tat Mersy.
