Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. All very interesting. Dennis married Ethel on Aug 14 1943 I have copy of their marriage certificate. They had two children together Valerie born Sep 1944 and Charles born Jan 1946. Dennis walked out when Charles was a few days old and was ever seen again. Ethel died in 2011 and would never talk about him. We know they got divorced at some point but not exactly when. It's unfortunately one of those family situations that wasn't allowed to be discussed. I think it's very likely his full name was Dennis Charles Frederick Simms. Although the name Frederick is not on copy of marriage certificate I have.

You refer to Dennis Charles' marriage to Eva being short lived. There is are two later marriages of a Dennis FC Simms in 1955 in Sussex and in 1980 in Croyden that could possibly be him if the middle intials were reversed.

I can't see a birth for a Dennis FC Simms. However there is marriage of a Dennis C Simms in Norwich in 1887 which matches better with his first marriage in Norfolk

Am trying to find out about my husbands Grandfather. He was called Dennis Charles Simms. He was born in 1922 and was in the RAF when he married Ethel Eva Russell in 1943. The marriage didn't last long. His father was called Frederick Charles Simms. I believe he came from the London area.

Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.
