Hi

I have a Staffordshire Workhouse record of my ggg Grandmother & her children.
in 1838 and 1839.

The advice I'm asking for is on the record where it say's

Original Parish : it says Drayton Bassett and the Union is Tamworth ,

so does that mean Drayton Bassett where my ggg Grandfather was born as my

ggg Grandmother was born in St Mary, Lichfield,Staffordshire.

Drayton Bassett does come under Lichfield doesn't it - it sounds to me like this is her parish of residence, but doesn't necessarily mean her birthplace.

I think it did come under Lichfield in them day's, and yes i never thought about that it could be her residence at that time.

I can not find it on Google though,

In 1838, Drayton Bassett was a parish in Tamworth union. (The initial rego districts coincided with the poor-law unions.) It straddled the Staffs-Warwick boundary until the boundary changes of the 1890s. It remained in Tamworth RD until the RD was abolished in 1939q4, and Tamworth RD was split between Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield RDs with Drayton Bassett going to Lichfield RD.

Subsequent history can be gotten by looking up, say, the birth of John (no surname) in Tamworth in 1838 on FreeBMD, then clicking on "Tamworth" then more info "here".

I think it would be your ggg grandad's status that counted more than your ggg gran's.

Thanks for the information regarding Drayton Bassett , I wondered if it was my ggg grandad's status rather than my ggg gran's.
