Do you mean the number that a birth, death or marriage is given on a register such as below (from FreeBMD) which you can use to purchase a certificate? It gives the volume and page number on the register |

Thank you I will have a look for others I know a lot have gone at Christ Church from the 1900's so not holding out much chance of finding one from 1832 but who knows I might just get lucky |
