Thank you for your reply s

I think I can rule out Harry Skeens looks like his correct name is Leopold Herbert, found his birth and marriage in Hampshire.

Harry Denver Skeats is wrong he was down at the docks in WW1 you can read it on Ancestry, different Harry Skeats but they got the correct wife,

I think your friend should buy the marriage cert as she knows it's definitely the right couple.

Hopefully he's not illegitimate and there will be a father's name and occupation there. The witnesses could give clues, and there would be a possibly useful address.

With so little to go on at the moment, I think this will be a slow journey so facts will need to carefully assembled.

Thanks for your help Janice much appreciated

I have not seen his marriage or death certs, just on the records as I know who he married and where he died and the years.

My friend said he was never Henry always Harry but who knows he could have been his past was never talked about, they know he comes from Hampshire ended up in Oxfordshire and worked on the railways, have been going though the census at Yelford to get any clues but none

Janice

Janice Report 14 Aug 2012 10:24

On his marriage cert, what name is given for his father? And occupation?

Janice

Janice Report 14 Aug 2012 10:16

Is this him?

Births Dec 1894
Skeats William Henry Southampton 2c 33

Right county and Harry is an alternative for Henry.

On the Army papers he was 18 yrs 5 months on 13th April 1913 so this is the right quarter.

Will go and look at censuses now.

There is a Harry in 1911 says born Isle of Wight which is only over the water so a possible.
