Old Derby Street Maps

I go along with Kath, but it's not the easiest site to navigate.

To illustrate how I proceed, lets take a concrete example, say Cathedral Rd, Derby.

I go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and look up Cathedral, clicking on the Street radio button.
I select the obvious hit, and get taken to some URL that begins with:
www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=435050&y=336576&z= etc

Now these OS coordinates identify a spot to the nearest metre.
The first is the easting - 435050, and the second is the northing - 336576.
If you zoom out on the map to 3 steps short of the most zoomed-in, you'll see the blue grid lines. These are 1 km apart, and the arrow head's just east of one of them, (50/1000 of way to next grid), and north-south wise, it's pretty much midway between the lines (576/1000 of way up).
One doesn't need to be this precise - 100m accuracy is plenty fine enough (but we got these coords for free)

Now go to Kath's URL, and just enter the coords - GO, then select the year/scale from the right hand column
The slider bars never go far enough, so adjust the coords entered and go again.

I am researching my grandfather who lived in Derby between 1874 &1925. I have several known addresses and that he was an 'Iron Puddler'. I wondered how you obtained old street maps of the era that may also highlight industries i.e. Iron Works
