Like i mentioned i am new to this. How do they get Tackney from Tierney?
You could be right because there is no trace under Tierney of my Granddad and would not know if my G Grandma was alive when my Granddad got married.

shadow2510 Report 17 Jun 2012 17:48

How did they get Tackney to Tierney.
Did not think about my G Grandma being alive when he married.
Could be right that name because there is no trace under Tierney or born in Preston.
Suppose they did settle around Liverpool from coming over from Ireland.
Thanks

shadow2510

shadow2510 Report 17 Jun 2012 20:24

Ye she is Greenacres Cemetery in Oldham. Buried with my Granddad and my Auntie Florrie and i think one of children that died young.
They are buried not far from my Mum and Dad.

lancashireAnn Report 17 Jun 2012 22:19

I have found Veronica - died 25-7-12 - living 6 Brunswick St buried RC section of Greenacres

also Bridget (yr Gt Grandmother??) died 15-1-09 in the same section

so does the grave not give you your grandad's death date and the age they thought he was?

shadow2510

shadow2510 Report 17 Jun 2012 22:56

Its a unmarked grave. i managed to locate it at the office with the date my Auntie Died. They are buried in the RC SECTION . I have a Auntie Bridget who died in 2003 but my G Grandma was Eliza Rose. Veronica was the second child who died in 1910-11 aged 1.
Do we have the same Grandma Tierney?

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 17 Jun 2012 23:20

I meant Bridget Tierney not the Rose side

what was the date your Auntie Florrie (Tierney) died - though I suspect it may be in the gap in the Greenacres burial records

extract for Terence see

do you happen to have the exact date of your Grandma Tierney's death?

wasn't Veronica only born in 1911 and died age 1 on the date given above?

just to back track a bit

I suspect the John J tierney who died in 1944 was this one

I think it was 1983 my Auntie died. Ye think Veronica was born 1911.
Just been looking again at Deaths and the only Florence E Tierney i can find
died in 1942 in Oldham aged 52 and she was born in 1892. Tht seems to match. My granddad tho as to be 1944. But that makes him younger than what is on the marriage cert. The other is he died in 1941. B ut that makes him a lot older.

shadow2510

shadow2510 Report 17 Jun 2012 23:46

Think the John J must be the one that died in 1941 in Oldham. He was 68 when he died but that means he was born in 1871 roughly.
The Tierney in 1931 index for burials is my Uncle Terence.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 17 Jun 2012 23:52

struggling trying to find the burial references to find who is buried in which grave. If you can find the 1st burial in a grave the site obligingly gives all the others buried there. I found the death dates of my own great uncles by this method, but it helped knowing exact dates of deaths of my great grandparents

you can see your Uncle Terences burial record by clicking on the link I gave you

My eye have had enough trawling for tonight - tomorrow is another day

Florence Tierney bought a grave in 1941 -

dates of burials in the grave (no names listed & burial register not available online for these years):-
3- 9-41 age 68 (John?)
20-6-42 age 52 (Florence?
2-11-61 age 3 days
31-8-83 age 65 (your Aunt Florrie?)

if you use the link (gives purchaser & date) then view next page (gives burials dates)

Hi Again

Thanks for finding that. Think that has to be the one. All i knew is there was a baby in with them but never knew who. My Granddad tho 68 means he was born around 1873 not 73.
Thanks Again.

ages at death were only as good as the informant knew so could be well out, especially if it was one of his children. When young my parents used to say they were "as old as my tongue and a bit older than my teeth"

the death certificate would tell you who the informant was but not sure if it is worth £9.25 as you now know exactly when he died and the age they thought he was

this birth reg could be as good as any

Will try and go from the 1877. Dont quite understand why my Granddad said he was born in Preston tho.
But thanks for all the help.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 18 Jun 2012 20:26

there is a John Tierney born in Preston in 1873

As they were RC the Joseph could have been added later

There is also a JT in the Preston workhouse in 1881

where did John & Flo get married - I wonder if there is any extra info in the actual register

shadow2510

shadow2510 Report 18 Jun 2012 23:16

Those records are held at the Lancs Record office.

I would normally offer to look for you but I will probably not be able to go until end of July.

Maybe if you ring them they would have a quick look for you as you know the exact date. If not will look later if you wish.
