has anybody seen a change on searching records on ancestry. Yesterday I could click on search records and all the records held on ancestry would appear allowing me to chose whether i wanted to looked at births, or the census etc. Today when i I go to search records ancestry brings up a long list of what it thinks may be matches. Not of much use. Does anyone know how I can get back to the original search option. Sorry if this does not make sense but any help would be appreciated thank yo Maddie

can't see old search option am i being dumb maddie

Under the bar across the top that starts with Home and ends with Shop does it not say, on the right, white background Go To New Search. If so click on it and see what happens
|
hi Tenerife yes it does, did that and still brought up a list of so called matches. If i cllick on old search the same silly list of matches also appears I really am at a loss whats even worse is if I enter a new ancestor and then clck on search historical records a long list of possible matches comes up, most being totally irrelevant Maddie

Maddie,
Which search icon are you clicking? There are two options SEARCH on top bar or smaller one SEARCH RECORDS
The large one on the top bar is for searching anyone.... ie you need to enter the details of the person in question
By clicking new search, it simply means that you are resetting your original search and intend to start a new one.
However , you can also search records for an individual whilst they are on your screen. To search from here.... click on the smaller "search records" icon which sits under the person's name and this will allow you to filter your searches on that person only.
Is this what you mean?
EDIT: To use the smaller search icon, you would of course need to have a tree held on ancestry to search from! Anne

Hi Ann have clicked on the smaller search records but still just get a list of matches rather than entry into all the records, if you see what i mean this is what i got when searching for issac ogden 1741

I have just tried it, and yes it brings up all sorts of matches, but you can narrrow /filter your search categpory from here. All the options are on the left of that page
|
I know, thats so long winded, I just wondered where the old search method has gone, it was so much easier and gave you the option of scrolling through the record if there was a mispelling or something. Guess its not my week, after losing genes and messing around to get back, now this. I hope its not happening in threes regards maddie

hi Jane just want to get back to the original way of searching rather than ancestry telling me what they think. And things do happen in threes Found I could not log on to internet banking Rang the bank, its down to firefox so they are going to help me sort that tomorrow. Think I will go back to the abacus and manual typewriter lol maddie

If I select Search - Search all records from the main banner bar, and "go to new search" is showing, then I'm in the old style search. I think you need to check the "exact matches only" box at top left of search screen.
|
Unfortunately, Maddie, the current 'old search' is not the one with which you are familiar
The fact that you had an internet problem means that you have lost that one -permanently
I couldn't get back to it either after I had an internet 'outage'.
It's called 'progress'!
