If I were sending for a birth cert I would risk sending for Albert's. If incorrect it's money wasted, but if his mother is Rose it will tell you more.

Violet M POOLE definitely seems to be the correct person, but the index seems to indicate that there may be no mention of the WILSON surname on her birth certificate.

I suppose at the registration office she could have been asked
"and what was your name previously? "... and so she said WILKINSON and not her birth name.

I have seen on these boards, an opinion that maiden name means the name in which a female married, but generally I think it is taken to mean birth name.

the birth certificate of Violet M Poole might also provide an answer as to Rose's 'real' maiden name!

Sorry if I have missed this, but have you considered getting the birth cert for Albert, as put on previous page? If it is the right one it should give his father's name.

I suspect, as you say, that the Rose I have put in other censuses is wrong - this is her 1911 (occ. box maker, same as 1901) and as yet unmarried:

I was thinking about this when Rose and Walter had children and I beleive they did because an elderly relative told me but she is no longer with us.
She said they had two daughters Violet and Ivy Poole
I have found their births in 1921 and 1923 now my question is would it have been a Poole and Wilkinson birth or aPoole and Wilson birth, can only find these
births as a Poole and Wilkinson.
I do think I might have to give up on this one

Obviously Rose could have been born anywhere, but as we have to start somewhere I have looked for births 1884-1886 (no middle initial) in London and there are only 2:

Births Dec 1884 (>99%)
Wilson Rose Pancras 1b 108
Wilson Rose Bethnal Green 1c 198b

Can anyone look for baptisms for these please?

-just to add that Rose Wilson, spinster, born about 1884, daughter of John Wilson horsehair brush curler married Albert Bell, age 22, boxmaker in 1905 in Bethnal Green.

(mindful of a female I came across recently who remarried about five times between 1901 and 1921, I was searching for marriages of Rose (any surname), daughter of John Wilson)

- and that there are WW1 service records of Albert Bell boxmaker of Hoxton who on enlistment in 1914 named Elizabeth Bell (crossed out, replaced by Davies), as wife (crossed out, replaced by dependent) and in the marriage box it states not married.

- so there is a slight chance that this Rose Wilson's marriage broke up, and she subsequently partnered Mr Wilkinson, who perhaps died, and then Albert Poole?

Hi I have been in touch with a person searching a Rose Wilson whos father was a horse hair brush culer ans she said it is not the same Rose Wilson.
on the Poole Wilkinson marriage certificate the two witnesses were Annie Johnson and Lilian Mason

Same family 1901 - now he is a horsehair brush curler, so I guess might be yours with his varied occupations! Doesn't get you any nearer sorting out the Wilkinson problem though in any case.

Margaretfinch

Margaretfinch Report 20 Apr 2012 15:26

On her marriage certificate in 1918 it says she was
33 years old so that makes her born about 1895
the address is Kay Street Bethnal Green her father was
John Wilson abottle washer does not say he was deceased.

Roughly when was she born Margaret? Might be wandering off too far, but maybe finding her father might track her down a bit - what was his occupation, and do you have an address for her on the marriage cert?
