Would it be possible for someone to go on Ancestry and see if they can access my tree ?? It is supposed be private but a( friend) has told me they can see all my info

Sorry Mary,

Living people cannot be searched via Ancestry Trees (anymore) so doing a search for your tree by looking for you won't work.
Living people only show as PRIVATE.

You will need to give the name/date of someone who is deceased for anyone to be able to check.

They seem to have changed the results recently for Private trees.

For instance, looking for a known person, a public tree gives

William Banner
Birth: 1803 - Kent, England
Death: 1890 - Chenango, New York, USA
Marriage: 15 Jan 1835 - Eastchurch, Kent, England
Parents: John Banner, Elizabeth
Spouse: Jane Bartlett

But a private tree, to which I have access gives

William Banner
Birth: 1803

Until a few days ago, the information shown would have been the same.

You're probably safe! You could 'search trees' from the drop down box rather than the profile page and see if you can spot your entry. :-)

There is a possible other tree belonging to a jb-hyde (maybe that is the one your friend can see) Has Maud FULLWOOD b 1916 married George HYDE .

Maud Fullwood and George Hyde are my parents Ihave no idea who jb Hyde is Strange because my brother is J B Hyde still living :-)

Had a quick look and there is only 3 people on jb_hyde tree...LOL
Maud, George and Private....

There appears to be a tree owned by blackcloak2008 also..bit hard to tell as has left the date and month but removed the years...

Did you have your tree as Public on ancestry, and then change it to Private??


If so, you might want to check on www.mundia.com


This is a site that ancestry started up about 3 or so years ago.

They took ALL the public trees from ancestry and added them to mundia.

It is a FREE site, although you do have to register .............. and can be seen by anybody.




IF your information is showing on mundia .................... you have to hide it again!


Register on mundia

Then go into My Account

Scroll down on the right of the screen to Subscription

Click on Deactivate my account

Make my profile not searchable (private), deactivate my account, and hide my trees


submit







edit ................ I have just looked for your name, and it is not there.




now, may I suggest that you remove your full name and birth year from this thread ......................... GR is also not a safe site, and it may well be that your full name is now on the web, courtesy of google.

If your tree on Ancestry was originally a public one, the details could have been taken by others and added to their public trees - which of course would still be there even if you later made yours private.
