	Good Evening, I have just viewed a 1881 census & on it it states the occupation : AB. Does anyone know what this stands for. Thanks in advance. :-S

	Kuros, you can change your Board Name using the My Account tab at the top of the screen on the right-hand side. FLOWERS, can you give details of the person who has occupation of AB so that we can look?

	I agree with Sylvia, it's able seaman. An able seaman (AB) is an unlicensed member of the deck department of a merchant ship. An AB may work as a watchstander, a day worker, or a combination of these roles.
