Does anyone know if an 18 year old woman would have needed parental permission to marry at age 18 in 1955 ? |

Yes she would have needed permission as she was under 21. I needed my parent's permission in 1960 |

I just asked my mum and she needed permission, but cannot remember how she obtained it. Her father did'nt go to the wedding but her mother did. |

I think Wales was the same as England then. |

She would have been over 18 but under 19 at the time, but guess then the age of majority was 21 . |

It didnt have to be a parental consent,,,,,,,as a ward of guardian could sign or applied to a court if it was proved there was grounds to override parental consent. |

When I have been transcribing marriage records, I have come across the phrase 'with consent of friends' . Not sure if the bride or groom were under age though. |
