I seem to remember that naming traditions are a little different and may have been anglicised so there may be some variations.

He is listed as a sailor

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, I ahe the marraige certificate of Hans Peter Sameulsen and Rebecca Chambers in 1868 in sunderalnd. Hans father was Sameul Johnsen Samuelsen. Hans was stated as born in Denmark in c1844. The only family I can find for the fathers name is in Norway. I will try Ancesrty .com and will post what I find. Thanks again.
