Can anyone read this cause of death from 1876?

Ah, I think you're all right, and wow, that was quick! Thank you!

I forgot to mention as well that the woman had just had a baby, her first (and only, obviously) about 3 weeks earlier, and was only 21 years old. Don't know if this would have made any difference, but I'll go along with intusseption, it looks like it to me as well now anyway.

hi ,intusseption is a condition that causes a portion of bowel to join into what is called the dorstral segment of the bowel,which means in our language,that the veins in the bowel have been strangled,causing a portion of the bowel to die,and in that yr,you died from that condition.....strangulated bowel to be precise,more commoly a condition of new born or young baby2s :-)

It is definitely Intuss...tion and intusseption is the only word which comes up with google

Hi, I think it might be Intussusception, a sort of prolapse or twisted gut, from what I can make out. Any help ?

I can't work out cause either, but wonder if it is one long word over 2 lines ?
Looks to me as if the part written above '3 days' might say ... .tion

Hi,

I'm usually ok with old handwriting, but am having trouble reading the cause of death on an 1876 certificate I received today. I've uploaded a scan of part of it to Flickr :

I'm fairly happy the box in front of it reads : Wife of John Mayo, Iron Moulder,
and after it : Thomas Metcalf, Father, Present at Death, Sowerby. It's just the cause of death in the middle that's got me puzzled. Something 3 days, certified by ? H Buchanan, MD. The first letter looks a bit like the I from Ireon Moulder in the first box, and all I can make out for the second word is Lion or Zion? Surely it's something else, but I can't think what.

Any ideas anyone?
