i have a family member who was adopted in 1938, apparantly she was 'given up' the day after she was born and her birth mother returned to london the same day. ( we have spoken to someone who was at the house at the time she gave birth and handed baby over) . we have got her original birth certifcate, but the birth was registered in plymouth 11 days after the birth mother returned to london. |

It should state who registered the birth in col 7...it doesnt have to be the birth parent and could have been done at another area register office by * as per declaration.*but the informants name will be on it.......regardless of who. |

would it say on the cert 'as per declaration' if she registered the birth back in london and the details were sent to plymouth where the birth happened? |

Think back to 1938, - TV prog on at the moment on a sunday eve- Would a woman that have just given birth travelled to London from Plymouth the day after givng birth? I'd have doubted that myself. |

i realise that she wouldve been taken into 'care' of some sort before the adoption was finalised. at the very l;east it would have to be done in case the birth mother changed her mind. |
