James Linchey - born 1796 possibly in Ireland. The only record I can find of James is on the 1841 census - Living in Whitehaven Cumbria, In New Houses - (miners cottages). James is my Great, great, great great grandfather, but I cannot locate any furhter details on him - not even a death record. In 1841 his listed lodging with an Ann Davis - ( he has 3 children with him). He has no wife at this time. Any help? Im sorry if this post appears more than once - i have tried to post this message twice and it does not seem to be working. Thanks. |

Just to add that he has James, 12, John, 8, and Michael, 7, with him, all born locally. |

Yes, that is correct. Also worth noting is that our family names is actually Lynch - unsure why this has changed over the years. |

Have you found his children in 1851, and which one is your direct ancestor? |

After checking - im not so sure, this chap is listed as being a Mason. My James Linchey is a Coalminer, the houses built in New Houses were specifically built for miners to inhabit. His son, Michael actually stays on in the property, and lives there with his children, wife, wifes older daughter (presumably from a previous marriage) and his wifes father, so I would presume his own father would continue to live with them? Ginns\Mount Pleasant and New Houses were all "slums" in Whitehaven and were grouped together near the docks. |

The Ann and James Linchey listed on the Death records in 1862 are actually the very young children of Michael Linchey (James Lincheys son) Ann was 2 years old and James was 1 year old - they looked like the both died at the same time or very close together. |
