My 4 x Gt grandfather, Charles Clay, joined the 86th Foot in 1793 who were originally known as Cuyler's Shropshire Volunteers. I have his discharge papers which tells me he was blinded and discharged because of that in 1813 and became a Chelsea Pensioner. I have found out what I could about the regiment and where they went at that time but I would like to find out more about Charle's army record if it is possible. Perhaps where he was blinded and when or if there is a list of the soldiers in that regiment anywhere.

Does anyone know if there would be records of this kind anywhere (apart from the discharge papers). There doesn't seem to be anything more on line at the National Archives. I have also contacted the museum in Belfast but their records don't go that far back.

There are Muster Rolls at the National Archives for that regiment for the right period. They would give a quarter by quarter account of where the regiment was and would list all men serving.

The Musters aren't online though. You would need to go there or get someone to go for you.
