Can anyone help me trace back the line of Robert Slaughter. I have the 1851 census return which shows him to have been born around 1820 in Wandsworth, Surrey and his marriage in 1843 to Mary Wallis shows his father to be Joseph Slaughter. However, I can find nothing that I can be sure of prior to this. Variations in surname or perhaps a spelling mistake in the records or simply not there? |

Thanks all. I think the Slater in the 1841 census is a good match as my Slaughter was a sawyer in the 1851 census and everything else seems to tie in (the whole of one side of my family seems to have spent generation after generation on the Wandsworth part of the Thames riverbank in various occupations. There are strong gypsy connections too). Think the Joseph and Susanna might be a good area to investigate also. Thanks to everyone for replying, doubtless I'll send out some more requests for help in the future. |
