Wills and Probate

Hi
I have found a couple of ancesters on the national probate calender on Ancestry and would like to get the actual wills. Could anyone tell me please if and where I could apply to get these. They both died in 1853 and 1854 in County Durham.

It costs £6 to get a copy of the Probate and Will

Make sure the text on the Calender actually says Probate. if it only says Administration, it won't tell you who the Estate was left to as they had died Intestate.

Detective

I had one recently where there was a Probate Record but no Will - Administration only. As there was quite a lot of money involved I decided to send for it anyway. I filled in the form that I got on - line and sent it off with the £6 fee and got back quite a bit of information including the names and addresses of two of the next of kin who were to administer the estate also information about the marriage and divorce of the person who had died.

This was for a death in 1898.

Ash, Bassett, Godwin, Elsley, Jackson, Webster, Gisbey, Arnold, Bowles, Vockenson

That's really interesting Moonbeam - thanks for that. It could be useful if it gives more information on the Administrators than was obvious on the Calender.
