MBE, New Years Honours

My grandfather, Owen Edwards, recieved an MBE in the 1949 New Years Honours List. He was an official in the Transport & General Workers Union at the time and prior to that in the Quarrymens Union in North Wales. I assume that it was awarded for his contribution in this field. (But that is what I would like to find out) |

If you know where he might have been living at the time, there might have been an article in the local paper. You could seek out and ask the nearest main library to the place; they may be able to search their newspaper archive for you (and may charge.) |

There's an Owen Edwards in the London Gazette of 31 Dec 1948 - no citation but he is described as Owen Edwards Esq, JP, Vice Chairman Anglesey Agricultural Executive Committee. Could this be him? |
