Have you looked at FreeBMD

All you need to do is enter his name and a year range of about 2 years before birth of 1st child. Also just choose the county of Lancashire.
From this you will get a selection marriages. Click on the reference number of any you think are possibles and up will come the names of all others married using this ref. usually by this late date only 2 couples per record.

Also you can find the birth registrations of the children by entering their surname & mothers maiden name.

Also have you found them on the 1911 census, this will tell you how many years they had been married by this time and how many children born and living. :-)

Right have just had a quick peek at FreeBMD

Found this:

Sept. 1901 W. Derby 8b 667
2 couples:
Albert Smith & Janet Meikle
Martha Alice Smith & Archbald Dawber

Was this a double marriage?

Thanks for this, but a little confused !!!
I think I did not explain properly these are my grandfathers siblings, and I am searching for descendants of them, the only Uncle my father could remember was Leonard which is why I have found the descendants, the only other one was Frank as described above and he thinks that Stanley never married but is not certain. The rest he never met as my grandfather moved to London where my father was born and never met any of his other aunts or uncles. I have found the parents in 1911 census with five child all the rest born afterwards found through FreeBMD but I am after if any of them married and went on to have children and with a name like Smith there are too many, is there a way of searching that would tell me if any of the marriages had an albert Smith as a father.

Thanks

Thanks

Right see your problem, have had a look at FreeBMD for just Clara, best name as not too common!

2 marriages in the W. Derby area 1922 Arthur Harrop 1923 William Bostock.

The only way to really follow any of these children is now really guesswork via FreeBMD.

My Simpson's also came from W. Derby & in the main stayed there until the death of their parents & then 4 of the 5 children all ended up in London via different means due to work.

You could do no better than to join the local FHS, take a look at this website
Liverpool & SW Lancs FHS.

As I live in London a quick visit to any useful archives in Liverpool is not viable so the FHS is my first point of call. Also by joining you can submit queries for help.

Back again - are you the same Fiona who is on Ancestry? If so you can search the Public trees on there, in a similar way to searching trees on here.

Looked at the Public Member trees on Ancestry and it looks like one of the Claras I listed above, who married Arthur Harrop, was the daughter of WIlliakm & Elizabeth. So the one who married William Bostock could be yours.

I did have a free trial, but not a member now, so thanks for that, did find Harrop so good to rule out that leaves Bostock is there any way of finding out if the marriage for this one had a father called Albert .

Thanks

Sadly the tree with the 'other' clara does not show who her father is.

Off now to do dinner. Will take a peek again on Ancestry to see if any other members pop up.

DazedConfused Report 3 Oct 2011 16:23

Nothing on the Private members trees on Ancestry

But have you tried the Search trees facility on here. There are hits for all members of your smith family you have listed. Some with only a couple of people.

Stanley only 1 person

Cannot guarantee you will get a reply but you can only try.

As said before you are now at the stage with this family that one of the only ways forward is purchasing BMD's.

Thanks once again have tried a few trees and so far only the Leonard had a match and I am in contact with a nice lady on this, but will try all the others and see how I get on, thanks for all your help today, do you know if you can access marriage certs if you travel to Liverpool or can you only purchase them online.

Thanks for that it does appear to be the right one, as most of the details agrees with the 1911 census however he is down as only being 1 and est year of birth 1910. that is a great help is it possible to see if you can find Frank Smith born 1914 registered in O/N/D as this is the only other sibling that I have info on.

Thank you

Hi I did look at the Liverpool records on Ancestry for Baptisms etc., in both the Catholic and other records but found nothing.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 4 Oct 2011 14:04

the 1911 census was taken on 2 April 2011 so if Arthur was born June 1909 he would not have reached his 2nd birthday by the date of the census and would therefor be down as 1 year old.
