ive followed my mums side of the family back lovely and been able to extend it well. just my dads side is being a total pain. |

When you're a bit further back Shaun - into the censuses etc, it does become a bit easier, and if the names are not too common you may be able to take a few shortcuts then ... but if you want to be really sure you are following the right family you do need proof - and it does not come cheap! |

I think your next step is your nan's birth certificate ... That will give both parents and probably an (another?) address. |

Have you tried looking at the electoral register? None kept during the war but you should find it either side. It will tell you who was there a bit nearer the date. Obviously only people over 21 are shown. |

Did Samuel marry your nan? Do you have their marriage certificate? How old does it say he is? |
