My GGGgrandfather Thomas Shuttlewood (b.1765) served in the Royal Navy between 1780 and 1802 on HMS Raccoon. I would be grateful if anyone knows how I could obtain his service record to establish where he was born. I believe that he was born in Ingatestone in Essex but cannot prove it. His date of birth was taken from his death certificate (age). |

Thank you Chris and Kay for your help. I've just tried the sites you have suggested but no luck so I will do as you suggest and contact the National Archives. |
