I agree with what Thelma said about being in the forces, "on his majesty's service " it is not to do with being in prison but serving in the military, in some capacity |

Hi. I have an ancester (born 1813) on the 1861 census that says for his occupation "on his majesty's service". On other censuses he is a brush maker (he may have been a gypsie but I have no proof yet). Surely if he was in prison he wouldn't be living with his family. Does anyone have any ideas please. |
