Irish marriage certificates that I have orderd from Irish GRO's only show fathers' names and occupation of the bride and groom.

However...some Irish Marriage Certificates issued by the individual Churches do show both parents names of the bride and groom...as do Irish Parish Registers up to a point. Early records don't even give father's names.

From 25 March 1754 to 30 June 1837 the entries in parsh registers were on standard forms which should include:
names, marital status and parish of residence for both the bride and groom;
the date of the marriage and whether it was by banns or licence;
signatures of the priest, groom, bride, and at least two witnesses.
After June 1837 the parish register information is the same as on the certificate.

I Married 1972,cert also has mine and my husbands dates of birth on cert.
Only thing that it still does not require is place of birth, but i did put my home address on mine.
I have a death of a 10 years old child (rellie) at died in 1887 in the workhouse and the only information it has is CHILD OF LABOUROR. It does not have either parents name or home address.

My Marraige Cert. includes my mothers(maiden name) and fathers name and my husbands mothers (maiden name) and his fathers name.I married in 1972.
In the Irish Republic. All Republic of Ireland have parents names on Marraige certs, and my unmarried aunt who died last year has her fathers but not her mothers name on her death cert.

There was no change in the certs thru 1969q1, although there were what you might call internal GRO memos clarifying what the entries in the various columns should contain. E.g., I think in 1875, time of birth was only to be included for multiple births. Before that, it generally wasn't included on single births, but some registrars did include it.

Marriage certificates have always included the bride and groom's father's names and occupations but never their mother's name.

Marriage certificates show father of the bride
and then the groom's father thats as far as I know.

After 1837 in England and Wales the fathers name/occupation are shown if known. Scottish ones are different and I think these include details of both parents.

Still awaiting the "Marriage Certificate" reply.

after 1911 a birth entry will show mother's maiden name against the entry.
after 1837 all birth certificates will show mother's maiden name and father's name
but neither show details of the marriage.

I understand that after a certain date, marriage certificates/details had to

include details of parents of those who were getting married.

Does any one know what date this was?
