Is it possible for a woman getting married in 1890 to lie about who her Father is on her marriage cert? On census record 1891 she is listed with her married name as the daughter of another person ( not the same name ). Who would you believe, the census or the marriage cert? ( I don't require a look up) |

And in answer to your question....yes people would lie on certs about their father, especially if they were illigitimate............rather than admit the it, they would name a "father".......have seen many threads with people trying to trace fathers named on marriage certs., but noone can ever find them!! |

I always thought that you couldn't lie on a marriage cert but this now raises some questions for me. Thank you for your replies. Not quite sure where to go from here on this one. Will need to go away and have a think. |

Well, if you are going to invent a father you might as well make it a good 'un! One of mine invented a father Alexander Longfield auctioneer. Yeah right. |

My Ex was going to put father unknown when we got married, as he did'nt like him, even though he had been married to his mother and was 16 when he left |
