I have traced my great grandparents back to 1867 when they came from Ireland to England. However, I can't find where in Ireland (am pretty sure it is Southern). Any ideas where I can start to look? |

Thank you for replying and the advice given. I am a real newbie at this. My great grandfathers name was Lawrence John Bow and his wife's maiden name was Mary Burke. Not sure of the exact date they came from Ireland but I think around the mid 1950's. They then married and settled in Nottingham. |

They married in Nottingham it seems. Getting the cert might help as hopefully you will have fathers' names to search for: |

Well, it's a start. Personally I would be getting that marriage cert. |

I agree - and it can be spelt Donohoe sometimes can't it? I think! Maybe they pronounced it that way? |

Thank you all for your research. I have now found their marriage in 1854 in Nottingham. I think Gt.grandad sometimes called himself John Lawrence Bow, insteas of Lawrence John,on certificate his fater was John Bow a Farmer, but all it says is Ireland. Mary Burke's fathers name was given as Anthony Burke (deceased). I just don't know where to start looking in Ireland. |
