Why would someone be removed from the married roll i wonder??

Susan was 22 on the 1901 census. Elizabeth was 2 and was born Chattam Kent. On the 1901 census no sign of any other children just Elizabeth.

1901 census Dublin states that Susan had allowance from husband it also states she was married not a widow. Unsatisfactory character?? sounds interesting! Wonder what she had been up to??

There are at three Service Records for this Ernest - on one of them his wife is given as Susan Mary - no other info re the marriage but there is a letter about her, and as BMD has posted, she was removed from the married roll.

The Winchester address is, I think, Winchelsea, Dover but it has been crossed out and an address in Chepstow added.

Also his mother is given - Mrs Carr, Snoadhurst Farm, Luton, Kent - this is on the earlier record which has him joining the Army in 1895 and being discharged in 1907. He then joined again for WW1.

oooppsss just reread the last Pension Records......

It states;

"Susan Mary; Struck off character found unsatisfactory"

Reading it it seems that Susans conduct wasn't supported by the Army and she wasn't on the married roll so she was removed.

Confused by this.

Confirms wife as SUSAN...... living in Winchester;

when you say you can't find a marriage either is that for Susan or Elizabeth?

I think it possible to that her father was a military man! Cant find marriage either.

Looked on BMD as Byrne as well and no joy!
