If you google Griffiths Valuation Co Sligo it is there -
http://www.failteromhat.com/sligo.htm

I shall look at the 1871 now and shall be back later hopefully.
Peter Roper, age 60, wife Helen, age 56, both born Illyria, Sligo, Ireland, and children William and Elizabeth both born in County Durham, living in Office Row, Seaham, Durham.
That is from the transcription. The image states solely Sligo, Ireland,.

I have spent what little free time I had this weekend going over the suggestions that have been made by Joy and by Erin. I now know a bit more about Irish genealogy and about my Roper family. Between us we have traced a few references to other Ropers who may well be part of Anthony's family - probably siblings, but I am no nearer to finding the elusive Anthony, b. c1814.
I have not yet studied the Rootschat sites, so this is my next step, but I have discovered that the on line parish records for Sligo births only start from April 1845. Not sure if there are any more from earlier.

I am looking at army service records right now - some give next of kin, some don't. Have just seen a Thadaeus but when I opened the images, I was disappointed to see he was born in Surrey.
