Hi, thanks for replies. These are correct entries, his age varies a lot from census to census. The name Garrard is often misread due to census takers flowery writing. |

So if he was 50 in 1871 he would be 63/4 in 1884 at death not 68. But the info on any cert is as per the informants given info |

What age does he give for himself. Its not unusual for new baby to be given the same name as one that died so maybe both baptisms are correct |

Hi, I`m trying to find out where my gt gt gt grandfather Frederick William Garrard was born and when. There is an entry on Familysearch for a Frederic Garrard baptised 23rd Oct 1815 and giving his place of birth as St Clements,Ipswich. This is a Bishops Transcript for Suffolk (not sure where I would find an original copy of the baptism). There is also a birth at Colchester on 18th June 1820 with the baptism on 5th Jan 1821. The parents names are the same for both (jeremiah Garrard and Elizabeth). The censuses don`t help as the place of birth varies even though it is obviously the same man. In the 1841 census he is in Colchester and says he is not from the county,in 1851 he is in Ipswich and says he is from Colchester. In 1861 he is in Colchester and says he was born in Ipswich,in 1871 and until his death in 1884 he is in Ipswich and claiming to be born there. Confusing or what? Could anyone suggest a way to resolve this, please. |
