Is it possible that certain individuals were NOT called up for Service during the First World War? I have a relative Thomas B Lynch, married in Whitehaven Cumbria - Nov 1915, i cannot tell if he was called up or not. How would I find out? He is listed as working as a "Cellar Man" at the time of his marriage. Could be be an Objector?? |

My grandfather wasn't in the Services - my father said it was because he was the eldest son of a widowed mother, and ran the family milk/dairy delivery business. |

Hi, Well it looks like Thomas came to Whitehaven in 1901 to live with his Aunt and Uncle. I have yet to receive his Birth Cert of confirm his parents identity. However, in his Aunt and Uncles house they have a daughter and a son, Harold - Harold is the same age as Thomas, not sure if any of this is relevant, but Harold may have gone and Thomas stayed? Unsure!! |

Nov 1915 is a bit early to be conscripted under the Military Service Act of 1916. |
